You decide which SSL certificate to choose and purchase!

Your choice depends on the desired validation level (validation method) and the number of domains you want to include in the certificate.

Validation Methods

SSL certificates come in three different variants, distinguished by their validation method at the time of issuance: domain validation, organization validation, and extended validation.

Domain Validation (DV)

For certificates with domain validation, only the domain name is validated. Visitors can be sure their data is securely transmitted and authentic. The identity of the website owner is considered less important and is not displayed in the certificate. This type is typically used for non-public websites such as intranets or personal sites.

Organization Validation (OV)

Certificates with organization validation explicitly display the company information in the certificate. This gives visitors not only proof that you own the domain, but also that you are the legitimate organization you claim to be. In the certificate details, information about your company is available so users can be sure they are not dealing with scammers.

These certificates are slightly more expensive than those without company details and take a bit longer to issue due to the need to verify business information.

Organization-validated SSL certificates are generally sufficient for most companies and organizations that handle non-sensitive visitor data.

Extended Validation (EV)

EV SSL certificates require validation of both domain ownership and the business itself. In addition, several extra checks are carried out to ensure the SSL certificate truly belongs to the registered company. For example, the identity of the individual requesting the certificate is verified, along with whether they have the proper authorization. As a result, there is typically a longer processing time for EV SSL certificates.

Thanks to these additional checks, EV SSL certificates offer the highest level of assurance that the website and its owner are authentic. They also provide the most visible form of SSL protection: not only will a padlock and https:// appear in the address bar, but also the company name in a green bar.

This validation level is recommended for websites that process sensitive visitor information—such as government portals, banking websites, or webshops that handle payment data.

Number of Domains

After selecting the desired validation method, you need to choose the appropriate SSL certificate type based on how many domains you want to secure.

There are three main options:

  • Single-Domain Certificate: If you only need to secure one domain (e.g. yourdomainname.reserveren.nl), a standard SSL certificate will suffice.

  • Multi-Domain Certificate (SAN Certificate): If you want to secure multiple (sub)domains (e.g. yourdomainname.reserveren.nl, reserveren.yourdomainname.nl, yourdomainname.onlinebooking.nl), a multi-domain SSL certificate is the right choice. Note: a multi-domain certificate is not available with domain validation.

  • Wildcard Certificate: If you need to secure an unlimited number of subdomains (e.g. *.yourdomainname.nl), a wildcard SSL certificate is available.

If you need an SSL certificate, you can request one from us.

If you are using a domain that includes i-reserve in the URL (for example: yourdomainname.i-reserve.net), you do not need to purchase a separate SSL certificate.

As a service, we provide i-Reserve with an SSL certificate by default (privacy by default).
