What changes when I work with activities instead of a calendar?
i-Reserve offers two ways to let a product be booked: with a calendar or with activities. The difference is where the date, the time and the price belong.
Calendar: the booking sets the moment
With a calendar, the customer picks a date and time within the opening hours of the product. Every booking has its own date, start and end time. If you want to change something, you do it on the booking itself. Think of renting a room, a court or a boat.
Activity: the activity sets the moment
With activities, you plan fixed moments in advance, for example a guided tour on Tuesday at 13:00 with room for 35 people. A customer books a place on such an activity. The booking belongs to the activity and takes over from it:
- date and time: those of the activity;
- product: the product the activity belongs to;
- price: the price per participant set on the activity (block Participant prices);
- availability: the number of free places of the activity. When the activity is full, nothing more can be booked.
Several groups and individual visitors can book the same activity. The activity dashboard shows at a glance who is coming and how many places are still free.
The differences side by side
| Calendar | Activity | |
|---|---|---|
| Date and time | Per booking | Per activity, all bookings follow |
| Product | Per booking | From the activity |
| Price | Price rules of the product | Price per participant on the activity |
| Availability | Opening hours and occupancy of the product | Free places of the activity |
| Changing | On the booking itself | Via the activity, or by moving the booking to another activity |
What does this mean in daily work?
The biggest change: on a booking that belongs to an activity, you can no longer change the date, the time and the product yourself. That is not a fault. These details belong to the activity, so all bookings at the same moment stay the same. How you do change a booking on an activity is explained in How do I change a booking on an activity?
